Ingredients
  

Meat
  • 675 g rib beef steak, cut into strips
Vegetables
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 7 mushrooms sliced mushrooms
  • 3 carrots sliced carrots
Thickening agent
  • 25 g cornflour
  • 30 ml water
Broth and seasonings
  • 575 ml beef stock
  • 1 tbsp tomato purée
  • to taste Salt + pepper

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 150°C / 300°F.
  2. Sauté onion, mushroom, and carrot in oil for 2–3 mins. Transfer to casserole.
  3. Brown beef strips in batches. Remove and set aside.
  4. Stir cornflour + water into pan juices. Cook 2–3 mins.
  5. Add beef stock, purée, seasoning. Bring to boil.
  6. Combine beef, veg, and sauce in casserole dish.
  7. Cover and bake for 1½ hours.
  8. Rest 10 mins before serving.
