Ingredients
  

Potatoes
  • 8 medium Russet potatoes, peeled and cubed
Meat
  • 1 lb ground sausage (Jimmy Dean or bulk)
Vegetables
  • 1 shallot shallot, diced
Canned Goods
  • 1 14.5 oz can petite diced tomatoes
  • 1 8 oz can tomato sauce
Spices & Seasonings
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
Dairy & Fats
  • 3 Tbsp butter
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ cup milk (warmed)
  • ½ cup shredded Monterey Jack/Cheddar blend
Toppings
  • ½ cup French-fried onions

Method
 

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water for 10–12 min. Drain and steam-dry.
  2. Brown sausage in oven-safe skillet. Add shallot and cook until soft. Drain excess fat.
  3. Stir in tomatoes, sauce, garlic powder, Italian seasoning. Simmer 5 min.
  4. Mash potatoes with butter, salt, pepper, milk, and cheese until smooth.
  5. Spread mash over sausage mixture. Top with fried onions.
  6. Broil 3–5 min until onions are golden and crispy. Serve hot.
